Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about mental health therapy, our services, and getting started

I am interested and never been to therapy before... how do I get started?

It takes a lot of courage to start therapy. That's why I offer a free 15-minute consultation with myself so we can get to know each other. If you feel like the fit is the right one (which is so important), we can schedule an intake appointment together and go from there. One step at a time!

What can I expect from the sessions together?

The first appointment will be a 50-minute intake appointment. We will use this time to get to know each other and create realistic and achievable goals. After the intake session, we will use the sessions going forward to focus on your goals. The following sessions will also be 50 minutes.

What is mental wellness and why is it important?

Mental wellness refers to a state of emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It involves the ability to cope with life's challenges, maintain positive relationships, and make choices that promote a healthy mind. Mental wellness is essential because it impacts how we think, feel, and behave, influencing our overall quality of life.

How does mental health and wellness impact daily life?

Mental health and wellness play a crucial role in how we manage stress, relate to others, and make decisions. When mental health is prioritized, it leads to improved emotional resilience, better relationships, and an overall sense of balance. On the other hand, poor mental health can affect every aspect of life, from work performance to personal happiness.

What are some signs that I need to focus on my mental wellness?

Signs that you may need to focus on your mental wellness include feeling overwhelmed, experiencing persistent sadness or anxiety, withdrawing from social interactions, or struggling to concentrate. It's important to seek support if you're noticing these signs, as taking care of your mental health can help improve your overall well-being.

How can therapy contribute to mental health wellness?

Therapy helps individuals address mental health concerns, build coping strategies, and enhance emotional well-being. By working with a therapist, you can gain valuable insights into your thoughts and behaviors, develop healthier ways of managing stress, and work towards greater mental health wellness.

What is the difference between mental health and mental wellness?

Mental health refers to the condition of your mind and emotional state, while mental wellness is a broader concept that involves taking proactive steps to maintain or improve mental health. Mental wellness focuses on practices like self-care, emotional regulation, and maintaining a healthy balance, helping to prevent mental health issues from arising.

How can I improve my mental health and wellness on my own?

Improving mental health and wellness involves incorporating healthy habits such as regular exercise, mindfulness practices, maintaining strong social connections, and getting enough sleep. Additionally, seeking therapy or counseling can be a crucial part of the process if you need professional guidance and support.

Is mental wellness only about managing mental health problems?

No, mental wellness is not just about managing problems. It's about taking an active role in maintaining a healthy mind by incorporating practices that enhance overall well-being. This includes stress management, self-care, and seeking personal growth, which all contribute to positive mental health and wellness.

What is the cancellation policy?

If you would like to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please allow for 48-hours notice. If the cancellation is within the 48 hours, you will be charged 50 per cent of your session. If the cancellation is within 24 hours, you will be charged 100 per cent of your session. Of course, exceptions will be made for emergency or illness.

How do I pay?

Once you have started services, you will be asked to upload a credit card to your file. It will be processed through the Jane App.

Can I use my insurance to cover the sessions?

Yes, of course! Use those benefits... although please make sure that your insurance company covers a Registered Social Worker. At the end of the session, you will be provided with an invoice that has my registration number on it to submit to your insurance company. If you have any questions, we can talk about this in the first session together.
